Training and Background
I am bilingual in English and Spanish and come from a multicultural background. Exposure to diverse communities, perspectives, and lived experiences has deepened my understanding of identity, culture, and belonging as central aspects of mental health.
I have been practicing psychiatry since 2009. My path began with focused study in psychology and continued through medical school, psychiatry residency, advanced psychotherapy training, and coursework in culture, identity, and family and community resources. I trained at Harbor-UCLA, Stanford, UCSF, UC Berkeley, and UCSD.
During my over 15-year career, I have worked across a range of settings including private practice, high-need clinics, residential programs, emergency departments, and hospital units. My experiences in these settings strengthened my ability to care for individuals facing both acute distress and complex, longstanding patterns requiring careful and nuanced attention.
Outside of my professional work, I value close relationships, quiet reflection, time in nature, engagement with the arts, reading, and travel. All of these help sustain balance, renewal, and perspective in my own life.
